GSLB

Dec 22, 2015

Global Server Load Balancing (GSLB) is an extension of load balancing functionality, which is highly efficient in avoiding downtime. Based on the nature of deployment, GSLB represents a set of technologies that is used for various purposes, such as load sharing, disaster recovery, performance, and legal obligations. With GSLB, workloads can be distributed across multiple data centers situated at geographically separated locations. It is used to manage the traffic flow to a web site hosted on two separate zones that ideally are in different geographic locations. GSLB can also provide an alternate location for accessing a resource in the event of a failure, or to provide a means of shifting traffic easily to simplify maintenance, or both.

In the GSLB tab, you see a list of GSLB rules created by your service provider.

In the Details pane, you see the following details:
  • ID: ID of the GSLB.
  • Service Type: The transport protocol to use for GSLB.
  • Region: The region of the GSLB.
  • Domain: The domain associated with the GSLB.
  • Account: The account on which the GSLB rule is applicable.
  • Algorithm: The algorithm used to load balance the traffic across the zones.
  • Domain Name: The domain name of the GSLB rule.

LB Rules tab

Click the LB Rules tab to view the details of the GSLB associated with the LB rule.
  • Rule Id: The unique Id of the LB rule.
  • Name: The name of the LB rule.
  • Public Port: The externally accessible port to balance.
  • Private Port: The corresponding private port on a VM.
  • Algorithm

The algorithm used to load balance the traffic across the zones.

Adding a GSLB

To add a new GSLB, follow these steps:
  1. Log in to CloudPortal Business Manager UI as a user.
  2. Click My Services and select the CCP service instance.
  3. Click Manage Resources.
  4. In the GSLB tab, click Add GSLB.
  5. Specify the following (some details are optional):
    1. GSLB name: Name for the GSLB.
    2. Description: A short description of the GSLB.
    3. Domain Name: A preferred domain name for the service.
    4. Service Type: The transport protocol to use for GSLB.
    5. Region: The region for which you want to add the GSLB.
    6. Algorithm: The algorithm to use to load balance the traffic across the zones.
  6. Click OK.
