Upgrade to 10.1 Without Virtual WAN Configuration

Important

This upgrade procedure to software release 10.1 assumes that virtual paths are not established between the MCN and Branches.

Note

If you are upgrading from a previous release version such as; 8.1.x, 9.0.x, 9.1.x, 9.2.x; see the instructions provided in the following link: Upgrading to 9.3 without Virtual WAN configuration.

Users upgrading to 10.1 from release version earlier than 9.3 to 10.x, ensure that you upgrade to release version 9.3.3 and then to release version 10.1. In release version 10.0 there is change in database to support RCNs which is not compatible to releases prior to 9.3.3. If you want to revert back to pre-9.3.3 after upgrading to 10.0.2 directly using the Activate Staged option leads to database reset.

Note

If you are upgrading release version 9.3.x or newer, follow the steps below.

The Citrix SD-WAN software change management procedure provides the following two different paths for SD-WAN software upgrades:

  20. Using the .zip file to manage upgrades. This process enables in fast package creation times when performing change management.

  21. Using the tar.gz file to manage upgrades. This process is slower than the .zip file process since it creates a full package for all platforms even if only the configuration has changed.

In Citrix SD-WAN release 10 version 1, the software upgrade process using the tar.gz file is improved to increase speed and reduce disk usage compared to the tar.gz file upgrade process in the previous release versions. These improvements are observed when you perform the change management procedure (Configuration update and Software upgrade using tar.gz file) on appliances running SD-WAN release 10 version 1 and higher.

The Citrix SD-WAN appliance GUI displays a message when uploading the software packages. This message is displayed when you click the Stage Appliances button on the Configuration > Virtual WAN > Change Management page. This message appears only when:

  • Adding a software package to the SD-WAN network. For instance, you added a new platform edition to the network and you need

  • Upgrading to newer Citrix SD-WAN release version 10.1.x or higher.

  • Upgrading or downgrading the software release version to release 10.1 or higher.

The Change Management optimization message is not displayed when upgrading to Citrix SD-WAN release 10 version 1 from a previous release version.

Note

When using the change management process in Citrix SD-WAN release 10 version 1 while uploading a tar.gz file, disable Single Step upgrade scheduling for WANOP package files, since these files are not available in the tar.gz package.
