What's New

Import a Certificate from a specific NetScaler Instance

You can now import a certificate from a specific NetScaler instance and apply it to other targeted NetScaler instances from the NetScaler MA-Service GUI. With this enhancement, you do not have to download the certificate to your local system and then apply the downloaded certificate to the selected instances. For more information, see How to Install SSL Certificates on a NetScaler Instance.

[#688029]

View Network Reports for Multiple NetScaler Instances

NetScaler MA Service allows you to choose multiple NetScaler instances (and up to five virtual servers) while generating a network report. You can now monitor network reporting data for multiple instances simultaneously

You can also export and schedule the report generated from the Network Reporting feature on the NetScaler MA Service. For more information, see Network Reporting.

[#665989]

Upgrade NetScaler Instance in High Availability Mode

The process of upgrading your NetScaler instances in High Availability mode from NetScaler MA Service has been improved. You can create a maintenance task to upgrade the HA pair in two stages. You can first schedule or perform the upgrade on the initial node, and then schedule the upgrade for the second node later on. The administrator can proceed with the upgrade of the second node only if the upgrade of the first node is successful.

Note:

  • Currently, the second node of the HA pair is upgraded first, and the upgrade for the first node is scheduled later.
  • Synchronization and propagation of the nodes are disabled until both the nodes are upgraded successfully.
  • You see a warning if your nodes in the HA pair are on different builds or versions when the first node is being upgraded. You can cancel the upgrade process for the second node until they are in the same build and version. Or you can schedule it for a later time, after the nodes are in the same build and version.

For more information, see How to Upgrade NetScaler Instances.

Fixed Issues

Analytics

  • When accessing session reports in HDX Insight, NetScaler MA Service fails intermittently. [#701042]

Networks

  • When device API proxy requests are sent to NetScaler MAS, it returns the Content-Length and Transfer-Encoding in the response header which is contrary to RFC 2616.  [#700717]
  • Currently, permissions for some dependent resources (ns_lbvserver,ns_csvserver, and so on) are given as part of Network Reporting feature permission. But as part of the new enhancement, these permissions should be given only if users have access to the corresponding node under Network Functions. For example, if users want to run the reporting on Load Balancing virtual servers, they should have access only to the Load Balancing virtual servers under Network Functions and vice versa.
    [#700859]

Known Issues

Analytics

  • On certain occasions, HDX Insight and NetScaler Gateway Insight nodes might not be displayed on the NetScaler MA Service GUI.
Workaround: Refresh the page and try again.
    [#690327]

Settings

  • On the Settings > Subscriptions page, the storage data consumption might appear greater than the entitled storage limit of 5 GB.
    [#689330]
  • When you delete the users from Citrix Cloud, the deleted user names continue to appear in NetScaler MA Service in Settings > User Administration > Users.
    [#686581]

Fixed Issues

Networks

  • To create a configuration job using user-defined templates from templates list, you must drag the templates to the editor and edit the variables by providing new values. But when the config job is executed, the variables are not replaced by the new values provided by you. [# 698812]
  • In NetScaler MA Service, when event age is set in a rule for an event, those events are not seen in the GUI. Also, as the entityUp, entityDown, and entityOfs entities are correlated, they should be updated for the same event.  But these traps are seen separately in event messages. [# 699487]
  • When NetScaler MA Service exports the HDX Insight reports, channel bandwidth value is not correct. [# 700011]
  • NetScaler MA Service displays a message in Events that always says that the licenses are expiring in the next 30 days, though the licenses might be expiring earlier than that. [# 696976]

Known Issues

What's New

Enhancements to the Multicloud GLB StyleBook to Support Parent-Child Deployment and Statistics-Based GLB Algorithms

The global load balancing (GLB) solution enables users to distribute the client requests across several data centers and application servers. The data centers are distributed on multiple clouds and the application servers are deployed on premises. This solution supports the following features:

  • Parent-child topology. The topology is used when statistics based GLB algorithms are used to configure GLB and LB nodes. This topology is also used if the LB nodes are deployed on a different NetScaler instance.
  • Spillover persistence. The backup virtual server continues to process the requests it receives, even after the load on the primary falls lower than the threshold.
  • Internet Protocol version 6 (IPv6).
  • Metric-based, non-metric based, and proximity-based GLB methods.

Use the "Multi-cloud GLB StyleBook," version 1.1 to execute the GLB configuration on the selected GLB NetScaler instance. Use the Multi-cloud GLB StyleBook for LB Node to configure one LB node at a time to create GLB parent-child topology in any of the following cases:

  • If you are using the metric-based GLB algorithms (Least Packets, Least Connections, Least Bandwidth) to configure GLB and LB nodes
  • If the LB nodes are deployed on a different NetScaler instance
  • If you want to configure site persistence

You can configure up to 1024 child sites.

For more information, see NetScaler Global Load Balancing for Hybrid and Multi-Cloud Deployments.

For more information, see Installing NetScaler MA Service Agent on AWS.

[#688901]

Configuration Audit when NetScaler MA Service Receives ChangeConfig SNMP Trap

When a configuration change happens in a NetScaler instance in the network, the instance updates the configuration. The instance then sends a ConfigChange SNMP trap to NetScaler MA Service. You can enable NetScaler MA Service to run configuration audit on that instance. You can configure NetScaler MA Service to generate a configuration audit diff, whenever it receives a ConfigChange SNMP trap. For more information, see How to Generate Configuration Audit Diff for ConfigChange SNMP Traps.

[#681934]

Built-in YAML Viewer/Editor to View/Create StyleBook Definitions

NetScaler MA Service provides you a built-in YAML editor that allows you to compose your StyleBook that corresponds to YAML guidelines. The content is validated against YAML standards and any deviation is highlighted. You can then correct the content and import the StyleBook into NetScaler MA Service. The built-in YAML editor provides two advantages while writing your own StyleBook:

  • Color coded. The color coding of the content helps you to differentiate easily between the keys and the values defined in the YAML content.
  • YAML validation. The content is validated for any YAML errors as you type in and any deviation is immediately highlighted.

For more information, see How to Use User-Defined StyleBooks.

[#695951]

Viewing Private StyleBooks in NetScaler MA Service GUI

As the number of StyleBooks - both public and private increases, you need an ability to search for the particular StyleBook that you want to access. You also need an ability to view both types of StyleBooks separately. In NetScaler MA Service GUI when you navigate to Applications > StyleBooks, you can view a list of StyleBooks that are present in the system. Both types of StyleBooks have distinct icons that declare them as either private or public. For more information, see How to View Different Groups of StyleBooks.

[#686913]

HA Proxy App Dashboard Integration

In NetScaler MA Service, the application analytics and management feature is extended to support HAProxy applications. The Application dashboard provides a complete view of all the applications monitored by NetScaler MA Service, that is, both NetScaler and HAProxy applications. HAProxy discrete applications are created automatically for every managed HAProxy frontend. You can also group these applications to form custom applications similar to NetScaler applications. Note: App Activity investigator is not available for HAProxy applications. For more information, see HAProxy Applications in Application Dashboard.

[# 693753]

Configuring App Score in NetScaler MA Service

NetScaler MAS allows you to configure App Scores. Calculation of the App Score is based on the average values of the following three key components:

  • Performance Score (APDEX score of the application)
  • NetScaler Instance Resource
  • Server Resource

The App Scores are displayed for all the applications that are discovered as well as the custom applications you define on the application dashboard. For more information, see Application Performance Analytics.

[# 693758]

Viewing Threshold Breach Details for AppScore Components on App Activity Investigator

The App Activity Investigator in the Dashboard tab displays key information of a selected application such as App Score components, errors, events, and anomalies. Each of the legends is aggregated at one-minute interval if the selected duration is one hour, and at a one-hour interval, if the selected duration is one day. These deviations are displayed as rectangular legends on the graph. These legends are aggregated and are color-coded according to the number of events that have occurred.

[# 693769]

Creating Thresholds and Configuring Rules and Alerts for HDX Insight

The threshold management for HDX Insight in NetScaler MAS allows you to proactively configure alerts whenever the thresholds set are breached. This threshold management is extended to configure a group of threshold rules and monitor the group instead of individual rules. A threshold rule group comprises one or more user-defined threshold rules for metrics chosen from entities such as users, apps, and desktops with an expected value.

[# 652441]

Creating Thresholds and Configuring Rules, Alerts, and Geolocations for HDX Insight

Threshold groups can also be bound to geolocations for geo-specific monitoring for user entity.

What's New

Proxy Server Support for Agents on NetScaler MA Service

You can now connect your agents to the NetScaler MA Service using a proxy server. Using this enhancement, agents forward all their data to the proxy server, which then sends the data to the NetScaler MA Service via the internet.

To forward data using the proxy server, type the proxy server details on the agent using the following script: proxy_input.py, and follow the instructions provided by the script to enter more information. The agent fetches this information while it connects to the NetScaler MA Service using the proxy server.

You can authenticate your proxy server by providing your user name and password information. When the agent sends the data, the proxy server authenticates the user credentials before forwarding it to the NetScaler MA Service.

Note: Proxy server supports only basic authentication.

[#697617]

Enabling Single Sign-On for Google Apps in NetScaler instances using StyleBook

The default SSO Google Apps StyleBook in NetScaler MA Service allows you to enable Single Sign-On for Google applications in NetScaler instances. Fixed Issues

Networks

  • In NetScaler MA Service Configurations Job > Jobs page, if any row has a blue background, the Create Job button is disabled. With this fix, the Create Job button is active and does not get disabled. [#695397]
  • In NetScaler MA Service Networks > Events > Event Messages, when you try to sort the event messages based on date, the sorting does not happen correctly. The messages are sorted in the reverse order to the direction of the sorting arrows. For example, when the messages are sorted from newer to older, the arrow points upwards. [#696737]
  • There is a validation error when you upload the ns.conf file to NetScaler MA Service for configuration advise. [#696920]
  • A trap message sent to NetScaler MA Service displays the name of the entity along with the IP address of the virtual server where the trap originates and the port. The following example shows the entity name in trap message received by NetScaler MA Service:

                    Entity Name

                    server_svc_NSSVC_IPFIX_10.102.29.150:4739(service_10.102.29.150_33554)_DOWN

NetScaler MA Service does not display the name of the entity, the IP address, and port number as separate parameters in the Message column in Networks > Events > Event Messages table. [#696639]

  • In an event rule, when you execute a script that has a message that has space (" "), the script is not activated. [#696896]
  • Some network reports take a longer time to generate in NetScaler MA Service. When such reports are scheduled to be exported, incomplete reports are exported. With this fix, NetScaler MA Service waits until the reports are generated completely before exporting them. [#695500]
  • In NetScaler MA Service, you cannot export reports for some tabular views and dashboards. With this fix, you can now export the content of the tables and dashboards. [#670226]
  • In NetScaler MA Service, consider that you are in a list view and you have navigated further into specific pages. You cannot navigate back using the navigation pane on the left side of the GUI. You might have to navigate by using the breadcrumbs at the top of the page.  For example, consider that you are currently in Networks > Instances > NetScaler VPX > Backup/Restore page. When you select the NetScaler instance type under Networks > Instances, the corresponding NetScaler instance list page does not open after you click NetScaler VPX in the navigation pane. [#684922]
  • In NetScaler MA Service, the upgrade of NetScaler instance using NetScaler MA Service fails. If you navigate to Networks > Configuration Jobs > Maintenance Tasks, and select Upgrade NetScaler, the upgrade of NetScaler instances fails. [#692538]
  • Configuration audit templates that are scheduled to be run at a specific time are also executed during global polling, which leads to a repeated execution of configuration audit templates. [#697157]
  • Configuration audit using specific variables values is not working for NetScaler instances that are in HA mode. [#696990]
  • You cannot upload input file for variables values while creating a configuration audit templates. [#697137]
  • In NetScaler MA Service, any error in processing the configuration audit report results in an empty mail sent to the mail recipients. [#697138]

Settings

  • At the time of node registration and deployment in NetScaler MA Service in HA, password of both the nodes has to be the default password "nsroot." Node registration fails if the password is different from "nsroot." [#691836]
  • In NetScaler MA Service, when you enter special characters such as "&" in the input fields, such as name and description, "&" is replaced by "&amp". [#692656]
  • In NetScaler MA Service, when you enter special characters such as "&" in the input fields such as name and description, "&amp" replaces "&". [#692656]
  • You can add applications to a group and also specify a regex to apply the search criteria to add applications to the group. In such a case, when you edit a group some multiple times, the name of the application is converted to an invalid regex expression. This causes the RBAC to fail and the users can see all the applications.

                1. In NetScaler MA Service, navigate to System > User Administration > Groups, and click Add. Enter the group name, and in Authorization Settings tab, select the required application and add it to the group and click Create Group.

                2. When you want to add a regex, navigate to Groups page, select the group and click Edit.

                3. In Authorization Settings tab, add the regex in the Add Regular Expression text box and save the settings.

                4. If you edit the group again, in Authorization Settings tab, you might find that the name of the application that you added earlier is converted to a regex. Because this is an invalid regex, RBAC fails and your user can see all applications. [#696515]

High Availability

  • When NetScaler instances in HA setup fails over and if the new primary is inaccessible from NetScaler MA Service, the instance is no longer seen in NetScaler MA Service GUI. [#697017]
  • When you restore a backup file from one NetScaler instance in a pair that is in HA setup to another instance in the same pair, that NetScaler instance becomes inaccessible because of a conflict in IP address. NetScaler MA Service checks if the IP address in the backup file and the IP address of the instance on which the restoration is performed is the same. If the IP addresses do not match, an error message is displayed and the restoration is stopped. [#686829]
  • When you are upgrading a pair of NetScaler instances that are in HA, the NetScaler instances are unstable. The instances might have to wait for some time before responding to the NITRO calls sent from NetScaler MA Service.
  • With this fix, you can set a waiting time in the instance profile so that NetScaler MA Service waits for the set time before sending a NITRO call to the instances. The default waiting time is 60 seconds. [#690860]

Support for Revision History Difference and Audit Template for Admin Partitions

The revision history difference and the audit template for administrator partition are now supported in NetScaler MA Service.

Revision history difference for administrator partition allows you to view the difference between the five latest configuration files for a partitioned NetScaler instance. You can compare the configuration files against each other (example Configuration Revision - 1 with Configuration Revision -2) or against the current running/saved configuration with Configuration Revision. Along with the differences in configuration, the correction configurations are also shown. You can export all the corrective commands to your local folder and correct the configurations.

Audit templates for partition allow you to create a custom configuration template and associate it with a partition instance. Any variation in the running configuration of the instance with the audit template is shown in the "Template vs Running diff" column of the Audit Reports page. Along with the differences in configuration, the correction configurations are also shown. You can also export all the corrective commands to your local folder and correct the configurations.

[# 684166]

Wildcard Support for Dynamically Adding Applications to Groups in NetScaler MA Service

When you add applications to a group in NetScaler MA Service, you can use regex to search and add the applications that meet the regex criteria to the groups. The users who are bound to these groups can access only those specific applications. The regex expression specified is persisted in NetScaler MA Service. When a new application is added to the system, NetScaler MA Service applies the search criteria to the new application, and the application that meets the criteria dynamically becomes part of the group. You do not have to manually add the new application to the group. The applications are updated dynamically in the system, and the respective group users can see the applications under appropriate modules in NetScaler MA Service.

For more information, see Configuring Groups on NetScaler MA Service.

[# 692032]

Assigning Specific Variable Values in Config Audit Templates

NetScaler MA Service allows you to create variables and assign values to variables while creating config audit templates. In the Specify Variable Values tab under Networks > Configuration Audit > Audit Templates > Add > Create Template, you have two options to assign values to variables:

a.       Common Variable Values for all Instances. Select this option to input common values to the variables that are listed on this page for the selected instance.

b.       Upload input file for variables values. Select this option to download the file, enter values for the variables, and then upload the file to NetScaler MA Service.

For more information, see Creating Audit Templates.

[# 691127]

Exporting of Configuration Audit Diff Report

NetScaler MA Service allows you to download the configuration audit diff report in configuration audit section.  The configuration audit section enables you to export the summary report across all instances and per instance and also allows you to export granular diff report for each instance-template pair.

For more information, see Viewing Audit Reports.

[# 679736]

Ability to Schedule Config Audit Template and Email Config Diff Report

NetScaler MA Service allows all the audit templates under Networks > Configuration Audit > Audit Templates to be run at a time that is scheduled individually or globally as per your requirement. You can schedule the config audit template to be run at a specific time rather than running the template at a default time configured by the system. When you select Customize template schedule option, you can schedule the template to be run daily, on a specific day in the week, or on a specific day in the month. For each option, you must also enter the schedule time when NetScaler MA Service should run the template. NetScaler MA Service provides you with the following options to schedule exporting of the config audit diff report.

  • Use global polling interval. Select this option to run the template on the instances at a time configured globally on NetScaler MA Service.
  • Customize template schedule. Use this option to configure the time and the frequency at which the templates need to be run.
  • Send report through email. Use this option to configure the mail profile to which the diff report should be sent as a mail attachment.

For more information, see Creating Audit Templates.

[# 681957]

Ability to visualize dependencies of a StyleBook as a graph

You can now visualize all the dependencies of a StyleBook, that is, any other StyleBooks that your selected StyleBook depends on. Dependencies are created as a result of composing new StyleBooks by using existing ones.  Dependencies are visualized as a graph of boxes and arrows, where each box represents a StyleBook and each arrow represents a direction dependency from a StyleBook to its dependent one. Navigate to Applications > Configurations > StyleBooks and in the list of StyleBooks that are displayed on the right-side panel, click the View Dependencies link for the StyleBook that you want to visualize.

Fixed Issues

The following issues have been fixed in this release.

Analytics

  • The Analytics feature does not display any data if you have added NetScaler CPX instances in NetScaler MA Service.
Workaround: Do not add any NetScaler CPX instances to NetScaler MA Service. [#694792]

Agents

  • If you navigate to Networks > Agents and try to download an agent from the Agents screen, you might see an error such as "File not found."
Workaround: To download an agent, navigate to Settings > Set Up Agent, select the hypervisor, and then click Download Image. [#695998]

Known Issues

The following known issues exist in this release:

Analytics

  • On certain occasions, HDX Insight and Gateway Insight nodes might not be displayed on the NetScaler MA Service GUI.
Workaround: Refresh the page and try again. [#690327]

Networks

  • In NetScaler MA Service, when you enter special characters such as "&" in the input fields such as name and description, "&amp" replaces "&". [#692656]
  • Maintenance tasks in NetScaler MA Service are not working. [#696952]
  • You can add applications to a group and also specify a regex to apply the search criteria to add applications to the group. In such a case, when you edit a group some multiple times, the name of the application is converted to an invalid regex expression. This causes the RBAC to fail and the users can see all the applications.

1. In NetScaler MA Service, navigate to Settings > User Administration > Groups, and click Add.

What's New

The following enhancements are available in this release.

NetScaler Global Load Balancing Solution for Hybrid and Multi-Cloud Deployments

The global load balancing (GLB) solution enables users to distribute the client requests across multiple data centers in multiple clouds and to application servers deployed on premises. This solution supports both multi-cloud and hybrid cloud deployments. The core advantages of this solution are:

  • Enables you to create, manage, and monitor GLB nodes across geographic locations from a single, unified console.
  • Provides the flexibility of moving part of the infrastructure to the cloud.
  • Supports active-passive topology for disaster recovery
  • Supports multiple global load balancing methods, such as Static Proximity, Round Robin, Source IP Hash, and Round-Trip Time.

The associated "Multi-cloud GLB StyleBook" in NetScaler MA Service helps in providing a single user interface for management of all GLB nodes in multiple data centers. Advantages of using a StyleBook are:

  • Changing the existing configuration is easy since the changes need to be done at one place.
  • Pushing the configuration to all the GLB nodes using StyleBooks is faster.

For complete documentation, see NetScaler Global Load Balancing for Hybrid and Multi-Cloud Deployments.

August 10, 2017

This release includes new features and bug fixes.

An upgrade for the NetScaler MA Service agent is available with this refresh. You have to upgrade the agent to build 500.120. For instructions on how to upgrade an agent, see How to Upgrade a NetScaler MA Service Agent.

What's New

The following enhancements are available in this release.

Suppress Syslog Messages in NetScaler MA Service

NetScaler MA Service receives all configured syslogs sent to it by the managed NetScaler instances. Because of large number of syslog messages, the syslogs occupy huge space in the database. Many of these messages may not be of importance to you and you may want to get only the important syslog messages.

You can now suppress some of the syslogs received on NetScaler MA Service by setting up filters. The two filters that you can use to suppress syslogs are severity and facility. You can suppress messages coming from one or more NetScaler instances.

You can also use text patterns to search and suppress messages. NetScaler MA Service drops all messages that match the specified criteria. The dropped syslogs aren’t seen on NetScaler MA Service nor are they stored in the customer database. Therefore, a large amount of space is saved on the storage server.

For more information, see: How to Suppress Syslog Messages in NetScaler MA Service

Generate and View Reports of Load Balancing Entities Configured on NetScaler Instances

You can generate reports of load balancing entities, such as virtual servers and services that are configured on managed NetScaler instances. You can view consolidated reports of all the entities. These reports allow you to have a high-level view of the following:

  • NetScaler instances
  • Load balancing virtual servers
  • Admin partitions
  • Services
  • Service groups

The consolidated report helps you to create a mapping among these entities. For more information, see: How to Generate Reports for Load Balancing Entities

Save Variable Values when a Configuration Job is Saved for Later Execution

When creating configuration jobs, you may specify variable values, but save and execute the job later or schedule the job to run later. In such a scenario, NetScaler MA Service now retains the variable values in saved jobs.
[# 637830]

Support for Customized SSH Port for NetScaler Instances

You can now specify user-defined SSH port for communication between NetScaler MA Service and the NetScaler instances.

To set the SSH port for the instance profiles

  1. Log on to NetScaler MA Service using a supported web browser.
  2. Navigate to Networks and select the instance type of the NetScaler Instance you want to discover in NetScaler MA Service.
  3. Click Profiles.
  4. In the Admin Profiles page, click Add.
  5. In SSH Port, type the configured custom SSH port number for NetScaler Instances to communicate with NetScaler MA Service.
  6. Click OK.

Fixed Issues

The following issues have been fixed in this release.

Agent

By default, only the super administrator user (the first user of your organization to sign up and log on to NetScaler MA Service) has the permission to generate the activation code required to register an agent to the service. A delegated administrator (every subsequent user that logs on) does not have the permission to generate the activation code. When a delegated administrator clicks Generate Activation Code, the following error appears: "Not Authorized to perform this operation."
[# 690576]

Application Analytics and Management

Application Dashboard in NetScaler MA-Service shows incorrect security metrics for custom-defined applications.
[# 689041]

Networks

  • When you configure a rule to monitor specific events in NetScaler MA Service, SNMP traps are not sent to external trap destinations.
    [# 689018]
  • When you configure a rule to monitor specific events in NetScaler MA Service, job is not executed for the events that match the filter criteria that you have specified. [# 688986]
  • When you configure a rule to monitor specific events in NetScaler MA Service, events are not suppressed for the configured time period. [# 688988]
  • When you create a group in NetScaler MA Service from Settings > User Administration > Group, the success message informing that the group is created appears before all the steps in the wizard are completed. [# 684944]
