Configuration Utility Changes

Jun 30, 2014

In release 10.5, NetScaler graphical user interface (GUI) has been designed in a new and improved format that provides better user interaction experience. You can see the following enhancements on the GUI:

  • The login page has been enhanced to provide a new look and now displays only the two fields as shown in the following image:
    Figure 1. Login Page
  • The GUI has been enhanced to provide you with a workflow-based experience which guides you through the entire configuration. The configuration settings have now been classified as basic and advanced for some features. The following image illustrates the basic and advanced features of a load balancing virtual server:
Figure 2. Basic and Advanced Features
First, specify the basic parameters required to configure a load balancing virtual server. Then, from the Advanced options select the required options such as, Policies or Protection to configure them until you have all the required details needed to configure a load balancing virtual server.
  • The NetScaler ADC configuration utility has also been reimplemented in HTML and you no longer need Java Runtime Environment (JRE) to access most features through the GUI. As a result of these enhancements, the GUI does not display pop-up dialog boxes for those features. Instead, each view is displayed as an inline expansion with intelligent pagination.
The following features or nodes still require JRE:
    • System
      • Upgrade Wizard
      • Diagnostics
      • User Administration
        • Command Policies
        • Command Policy RegEx Editor
    • Visualizers
      • Network > Network Visualizer
      • Network > TCP/IP connections
      • Traffic Management > Load Balancing > Visualizer
      • Traffic Management > Content Switching > Visualizer
      • Traffic Management > GSLB > Visualizer
    • Security
      • Application Firewall
        • Application Firewall wizard
        • Add/ Edit/ Import profiles
        • Signatures
          • Add
          • Update Version
          • Auto Update Settings
        • Add/ Edit Policies
  • The GUI header displays appliance details from a drop-down list, thereby, decluttering the header as shown in the following image:

  • The tooltips are now displayed on demand. If you want to view the description of a field, click on that field, and then click the question mark symbol that appears next to the field. Also, the tooltips box appears on the side of the field without obstructing your view of the field.

  • NetScaler ADC configuration utility is now integrated with Citrix XenMobile, Citrix XenApp and XenDesktop.

These wizards now appear in the configuration utility. You can use this wizard to configure the NetScaler ADC for your Worx Mobile App and to provide access to hosted virtual desktops (XenDesktop) and hosted Windows virtual apps through NetScaler Gateway.
