Studio App Packaging based assignments

Elastic Layers can be assigned through Studio App Packages, enabling you to use a single workflow, from a single console, to deliver applications to all of your Citrix non-persistent workspaces.

Prerequisites

  • .NET Framework 4.6.2 or higher is required on any image where elastic layers are deployed.

  • The app layers that you want to assign as elastic layers.

  • Studio App Packaging assignment of elastic layers requires CVAD/DaaS 2511 or later.

Enabling app layers for Studio use

To enable an app layer for use with Studio App Packages:

  • Go to Layers from the App Layering UI

  • Edit the desired app layer

  • Under App Layer Settings select the Enable this App Layer for use with Studio App Packages checkbox

Preparing an image for elastic layer assignment through Studio

For both single and multi-session Windows operating systems, when installing the VDA either within a platform layer to be included in a published image or within a non-layered image, the optional VDA component App Packages Delivery Component must be included to enable elastic layer discovery within Studio App Packages.

Layered Images

Enable Application Layering under the Elastic Layering dropdown in the image template. Ensure VDA 2511 or later is installed in a platform layer included in the published image.

Non-Layered Images

  • Multi-session VDA installation

Install Virtual Delivery Agent (VDA) 2511 or later. If an older version of the VDA is already installed, uninstall the old version first. When installing the new version, be sure to select and install the optional component Citrix Elastic App Layering.

  • Single-session VDA installation

Use Citrix User Personalization Layer (UPL) in a single-session, non-layered image to enable Studio-assigned elastic layers. Configure the image as stipulated for UPL.

OS compatibility for elastic layers

For the best results, elastic layers should be assigned to images running an OS that is as close as possible to the OS used to author the layers. It is recommended that you use the same OS class and OS revision, e.g. Windows 11 25H2. If you use a Windows 11 OS layer to create the app layer, and the image it is assigned to runs Server 2022, then the application might not work as expected.
