Transition and Trade-Up (TTU) with Citrix Universal Subscription

Transition and Trade-Up

  • Transition is when you move your current on-premises licenses to the cloud or Universal version of the same product or edition. For example, you move from Citrix Virtual Apps and Desktops Advanced on-premises to Citrix Universal Advanced Plus.

  • Trade Up is when you exchange your current on-premises licenses or cloud subscriptions to a new product or a higher-level product edition. For example, you move from Citrix Virtual Apps and Desktops Advanced on-premises to Citrix Universal Advanced Plus.

    Note:

The main difference between Transition and Trade Up in regards to Citrix licensing is that Transition allows you to move your current on-premises licenses to the cloud or Universal version of the same product or edition, while Trade Up allows you to exchange your current on-premises licenses or cloud subscriptions to a new product or a higher-level product edition.

    For example:

    • Transition: Consider that you are currently running Citrix Virtual Apps and Desktops on-premises and you want to move to Citrix Virtual Apps and Desktops on Azure. You can use Transitionto move your existing licenses to the cloud without having to purchase new licenses.
    • Trade Up: You are currently running Citrix Virtual Apps and Desktops Advanced on-premises and you want to upgrade to Citrix Virtual Apps and Desktops Premium. You can use Trade Up to exchange your existing licenses for new licenses at a discounted price.
  • Transition and Trade-Up (TTU) is a combination of both Transition and Trade-up where you move your current on-premises licenses to the cloud and exchange these licenses for a higher-level product edition. For example, you move from Citrix Virtual Apps and Desktops Advanced on-premises to Citrix Universal Premium Plus.

An on-premises customer can move their existing deployments of eligible Citrix products to Citrix DaaS or Citrix Universal subscriptions through the Transition and Trade-Up (TTU).

Transition and Trade-Up terms and limitations

  • You must have a minimum of 250 U/D or 100 CCU licenses in your account.
  • You must have an active Customer Success Services entitlement in effect at the time of your Transition, Trade Up, or TTU transaction.
  • The on-premises licenses which are the subject of the Transition, Trade-Up, or TTU are rescinded upon the purchase. The rescinded licenses are replaced with term-based on-premises licenses corresponding to the product, edition, and license model of the cloud or Universal license (destination).
  • For offerings specific to Transition and Trade-Up, check with your Citrix sales representative or partner for more information.
  • For more information about how to start your transition from on-premises to cloud or Universal, contact your account Customer Support Manager.

Citrix Universal Subscription Licenses

Universal Subscription licenses give you the ability to be licensed and supported on your traditional on-premises Citrix software and Citrix Cloud services at the same time. With Citrix Universal Subscription, you can transition to Cloud gradually or configure a hybrid deployment while running your on-premises deployment in parallel, without losing out on your on-premises infrastructure.

If you have Citrix perpetual licenses and you transition or trade-up to Citrix Universal subscription licenses, Citrix rescinds your on-premises perpetual licenses and replaces them with term-based on-premises licenses corresponding to the product, edition, license model, and term duration of the Citrix DaaS service. Rescinded licenses must be deleted from License Servers. For more information, see Deleting license files.

Users or devices covered by your Citrix Universal license subscription might use both their on-premises term licenses and their Citrix Cloud subscription licenses at the same time. For example, if you have Citrix Virtual Apps and Desktops Advanced (CCU) on-premises licenses and you trade up to Citrix Universal Premium (User/Device), you get on-premises Citrix Virtual Apps and Desktops Advanced entitlements (User/Device) along with Citrix DaaS Premium subscription licenses for each user.

Universal Subscription licenses do not require you to transition your environment from on-premises to cloud by the end of their term – you might operate in a hybrid capacity throughout the duration of the subscription. Customer Success Services (support and maintenance) is included in the subscription during the term.

Hybrid Rights Renewals

Before Citrix Universal licenses were available, customers were able to purchase hybrid rights to enable access to both on-premises and Citrix Cloud licenses. Hybrid Rights were term-based on-premises subscription licenses. These licenses were provided in addition to the cloud service subscription when an on-premises customer transitioned or traded up from an on-premises license to a cloud service subscription. Citrix rescinded your on-premises perpetual licenses and replaced them with term-based on-premises licenses corresponding to the product, edition, and license model of the cloud service and for the duration defined under the applicable Cloud or Hybrid Rights SKUs. Hybrid Rights subscriptions provided access to both your on-premises and Cloud resources at the same time. Only those users or devices covered by your Citrix Cloud subscription were able to use the Hybrid Rights on-premises term licenses to connect to the Citrix Cloud Services.

Note:

Citrix Virtual Apps and Desktops do not support mixed editions in a single site but do support mixed products and models. For more information, see Multi-type licensing.
