Configuration

Selective encoding is the default mode of operation and therefore no additional configuration is necessary. By default, selective encoding will use Intelligent Build to Lossless when a Server side GPU is available.

To explicitly set selective encoding:

  1. Navigate to the graphics policy settings in Citrix Studio.
  2. Locate the ‘Use video codec for compression’ policy.
  3. Set the policy to ‘Use When Preferred’.
  4. Apply and propagate the policy changes to your delivery groups.

Graphics Encoder

Intelligent Build to Lossless was introduced with Citrix Virtual Apps and Desktops version 2503. For CVAD versions prior to 2503, selective encoding will work without Intelligent Build to lossless.

To use selective encoding without Intelligent Build to lossless for VDAs with a GPU (to set the legacy behaviour of versions prior to 2503):

  1. Navigate to the graphics policy settings in Citrix Studio.
  2. Locate the ‘Use video codec for compression’ policy.
  3. Set the policy to ‘For actively changing regions’.
  4. Apply and propagate the policy changes to your delivery groups.

Graphics Encoder

Note for versions prior to 2503, use when preferred and for actively changing regions were identical. In 2503, the default setting of use when preferred includes Intelligent Build to lossless when a GPU is available. In cases where there is no GPU, use when preferred is identical to for actively changing regions.
