Profile Management

Enable profile load timeout

The Enable profile load timeout policy lets you set the maximum number of seconds Citrix Profile Management waits for a user profile to load before switching to a temporary profile. By setting a specific timeout, you gain greater flexibility in profile loading and enhance session resiliency.

Typical use cases include:

  • Non-persistent multi-session VDAs running Citrix Apps. In such environments, loading user-specific data might not be necessary. You can set the timeout to 0 seconds to bypass profile loading and use a temporary profile.
  • Error handling. This policy mitigates network disruptions by automatically switching to a temporary profile if profile loading exceeds the timeout setting.

Note:

  • This policy applies to both file-based and container-based profile solutions.
  • This policy doesn’t apply to the profile migration and profile reset processes.

To enable and configure this policy using a GPO, follow these steps:

  1. Open the Group Policy Management Editor.
  2. Access Policies > Administrative Templates: Policy Definitions (ADMX files) > Citrix Components > Profile Management > Advanced settings.
  3. Double-click the Enable profile load timeout policy.
  4. In the policy window that appears, select Enabled.
  5. Enter a number ranging from 0 to 1800 (in seconds) for the Profile load timeout setting.

    Note:

    • We recommend setting the timeout to greater than 10 seconds unless there is a strong need. A short timeout might cause users to unexpectedly log on to a temporary profile, even in normal conditions.
    • If you enter 0, Profile Management uses the temporary profile immediately when processing user logons.
  6. Click OK.

Configuration precedence is as follows:

  1. If this policy isn’t configured here, the value from the .ini file is used.
  2. If this policy isn’t configured either here or in the .ini file, the policy is disabled by default.
