Profile Management

What’s new

What’s new in 2603

This release includes the following new features and enhancements. It also addresses several issues that help to improve overall performance and stability.

Automatic configuration enhancements

Automatic configuration enhancements simplify Profile Management by applying smart defaults and preserving customizations, reducing effort, accelerating deployments, and delivering optimized profiles for faster onboarding and consistent operations. For more information, see Use automatic configuration.

In-session failover support for OneDrive and Outlook containers

By default, when multiple user stores are configured, failover for OneDrive and Outlook containers occurs only at user logon. The Enable in-session profile container failover among user stores policy now extends failover support to in-session scenarios for these containers.

When this policy is enabled, if Profile Management loses connectivity to the active OneDrive or Outlook container during a session, it automatically fails over to another available user store. This ensures continued profile availability without requiring the user to log off.

For more information, see Enable in-session profile container failover among user stores.

A new Enable BindLink redirection policy lets you use the Microsoft BindLink API to handle file system redirections within profile containers. This policy is disabled by default and is supported only on Windows 11 24H2 and Windows Server 2025 or later (version 10.0.25314.0 or later).

BindLink improves profile container compatibility and redirection reliability, offers more precise container inclusion and exclusion control, and reduces configuration effort. For more information, see Enable BindLink redirection.

Enhanced AppX package load acceleration with StateRepository auto-recovery

This enhancement improves the reliability of AppX package load acceleration by automatically recovering the StateRepository after OS updates, unexpected shutdowns, or storage inconsistencies. It reduces load failures and delivers a more stable and consistent user logon experience.

For more information, see Enable UWP app load acceleration.
