What’s new

This version includes the following enhancements and addresses several issues to improve the user experience.

Migrate user store

Starting with this release, Profile Management provides a solution to migrate your user store. Implemented as a policy, this feature can be useful in cases where you want to migrate your user store to a more scalable file server. With this feature, you specify the path to the folder where the user settings were previously saved. After the changes to the policy settings take effect, the user settings stored in the previous user store are migrated to the current user store. The current user store is specified in the Path to user store policy. For more information, see Migrate user store.

Automatic migration of existing application profiles

Profile Management can now migrate existing application profiles automatically. Implemented as a policy, this feature can be useful in cases where you want to migrate your application profiles across different operating systems. For more information, see Automatic migration of existing application profiles.

Enable native Outlook search experience

This release includes the following enhancement to the Enable search index roaming for Outlook feature. Profile Management now automatically saves a backup of the last known good copy of the search index database. It reverts to the copy in case of corruption. For more information, see Automatic backup and restore of Outlook search index database.

Disable automatic configuration

Profile Management enhances the user experience with the Start menu. It automatically configures the following policies so that the Start menu functions properly without the need to configure them manually:

  • Add “Appdata\Local\Microsoft\Windows\Caches” and “Appdata\Local\Packages” to “Folders to Mirror”
  • Add “Appdata\Local\Microsoft\Windows\UsrClass.Dat*” to “Files to synchronize”

For details, see Disable automatic configuration.

This enhancement also improves the user experience with Microsoft Edge. As a result, settings associated with home page, favorites, and reading list can roam with user profiles.
