Configuration

In Citrix Virtual Apps and Desktops release 2503 and later, Intelligent Build to Lossless is enabled by default on VDAs with a supported GPU. You do not need to create any policies to enable it. The behavior is controlled by the state of the “Use video codec for compression” policy:

To enable Intelligent Build to Lossless (Default Behaviour)

Leave the Use video codec for compression policy as Not Configured. Alternatively, you can explicitly set the Use video codec for compression policy to Use when preferred.

Explicitly set the “Use video codec for compression” policy to “For actively changing regions”.

Selecting “for actively changing regions” will result in Thinwire using Selective Encoding like in pre-2503 VDAs with a server-side GPU.

Step-by-Step Instructions

To explicitly disable the Intelligent Build to Lossless policy using Citrix Studio, follow the instructions below.

Citrix Studio (GUI)

  1. Open the Citrix Studio.
  2. In the left-hand pane, navigate to Policies.
  3. Click Create Policy or edit an existing policy that applies to the target users or delivery group.
  4. In the policy configuration window, use the search bar to find the Use video codec for compression policy, which is located under the ICA > Graphics category.
  5. Select the policy and click Edit.
  6. By default, this policy is set to Use when preferred. Uncheck the Use default value option.
  7. Change the value to for actively changing regions.
  8. Click OK to save the policy setting.
  9. Ensure the policy is enabled, prioritized correctly, and applied to the appropriate Delivery Group or user filter.

Note:

If the Visual Quality policy is explicitly set to ‘Build to Lossless’ or ‘Always Lossless’, those settings will always take precedence and override the new Intelligent Build to Lossless feature. For best results, leave the “Visual Quality” policy and the “Use a video codec for compression” setting at their default values.
