Citrix Virtual Apps and Desktops

Cross session Clipboard Exchange (Preview)

Cross session clipboard exchange is a new data loss prevention and mitigating control for clipboard. It enables clipboard data to be shared between Citrix sessions without placing the data on the local endpoint’s clipboard.

Cross session clipboard exchange works in conjunction with the current clipboard polices to provide a more secure method of sharing clipboard data between VDA and client.

This feature is currently in Preview.

When users place data on the VDA’s clipboard, the clipboard data is automatically shared with the endpoint when the ‘Client clipboard redirection policy’ clipboard policy is enabled. This enables users to copy and paste data from their remote session to their client.

Users may have access to multiple remote sessions and applications from multiple sources and can share data between these sessions via the clipboard. In this case, the clipboard data will also be available on the local endpoints’ clipboard by default.

In environments that handle sensitive data, customers may choose to prohibit sharing of clipboard data from the remote session to the client clipboard; however, this will also limit the clipboard functionality between Citrix sessions.

Cross-session clipboard exchange will allow for the clipboard transfer between Citrix sessions (both seamless sessions as well as Desktop sessions) that could be published on different servers and/or sessions while preventing the clipboard data from flowing through the local endpoints clipboard and thereby preventing data exfiltration risks and accidental data loss while improving user experience.

Requirements

The prerequisites for the cross session clipboard exchange Preview are as follows:

  • Windows endpoint running CWA for Windows 2507 LTSR later;
  • Windows VDA running VDA 2507 LTSR or later.
