Central License File Management

Central License File Share

License file management is easy with uberAgent. Simply set up a file share with read permissions for computer accounts, place your uberAgent license tokens in the file share, and configure the share path in uberAgent’s configuration option LicenseFilePath. Note that only the folder path without the file name should be specified. Endpoints periodically check the configured LicenseFilePath for new tokens. If any license tokens are found that are not yet cached locally, the new files are copied to the local license cache directory located at %ProgramData%\vast limits\uberAgent\License cache (Windows) or /Library/Application Support/uberAgent/License Cache (macOS), respectively.

Availability Requirements

There is no requirement for the configured license file path to be available at all times. Endpoints always use the local license cache for license validation, ensuring functionality even during temporary unavailability of the central file share.

Local license storage

Setting up a central file share is not required. License tokens can also be stored in a local folder on each endpoint. The LicenseFilePath setting accepts either a file share or a local folder as input. If LicenseFilePath is not specified, uberAgent defaults to the installation directory on Windows or /Library/Application Support/uberAgent on macOS.

Storing uberAgent’s License in Azure Files

uberAgent also supports validating license tokens stored in an Azure Files share. Our knowledge base article describes the necessary steps to configure this.

Configuring Licensing Through Citrix Studio

Starting with uberAgent 7.4, licensing can also be configured through Citrix Studio and Citrix Web Studio. This method works technically in the same way as described in the previous section, with the exception that the LicenseFilePath is specified through a policy setting. The policy setting to configure the path is named uberAgent license path. However, starting with uberAgent 7.4.2 (CVAD 2507 LTSR CU1), a license file is no longer required on Citrix VDAs. When the VDA is licensed, uberAgent is automatically licensed on these systems as well.

Note: Citrix policies are only supported if uberAgent was installed as part of the Citrix Virtual Apps and Desktops™ (CVAD) installation.
