Citrix Virtual Delivery Agent for macOS

HDX Graphics Optimizations

macOS VDA has put tremendous effort to optimize HDX graphics experience to secure end user has a consistent session usage, the optimizations are more target for use cases where the end user could be in different geographies compare with the VDA was deployed.

This is a systematic and phased approach and in this 2603 release, the Fullscreen h246 text sharpening capability is been added.

A post-processing feature called Automatic adjusting graphics quality for Full-Screen H.264/H.265 Graphics mode that applies text sharpening in Remote Desktop sessions. It improves text clarity by making character edges appear crisper, especially on low-bandwidth connections where higher compression (lower bitrate) can blur fonts and thin UI elements.

When network conditions change, the session may temporarily reduce visual quality to maintain usability, then restore higher quality when conditions improve.

It may adjust:

  • Graphics quality (for example, image clarity, detail level, or compression)

  • Frame rate (the number of frames delivered per second)

Why this happens (common triggers):

  • Bandwidth changes: When available network capacity drops, transmitting high-quality, high-frame-rate graphics can introduce delays. Lowering graphics quality and/or frame rate reduces the amount of data sent, helping minimize stutter, freezing, and input latency.

Note:

There is no need to configure extra policies.
