Best practices for backup and restore

This article provides several recommendations that can help in better planning of backup and restore.

Scheduling backups
Set up a default backup schedule, which can run at a daily, weekly, or monthly frequency based on how frequently you expect your site configuration to change. Set this default schedule for a less active window, possibly weekends, or midnight. For information on scheduled backups. see Create scheduled backups.
If you have multiple backup schedules defined that might run on the same day, then use the Settings tab on the Backup and Restore node to reset the limit to one backup per day.
Managing backups Always pin golden copy backups so that they are retained when the 30 backup limit is reached. Right-click a backup to pin the selected backup.

FAQ

Can custom admins do backup and restore?

No. Backup and restore functionality is limited to administrators with full rights.

Can we backup selective components?

No. Currently, the on-demand and scheduled backups back up the entire site configuration. Components have several dependencies and pre-requisites. To ensure proper resolution of these dependencies, you can back up components in entirety. You can however, restore selective components.

Can we download backups?

Currently, use ACT to download backups from your DaaS site. You can download ACT from Automated Configuration for Virtual Apps and Desktops.

Can we backup and restore MCS catalogs?

Currently, we cannot backup and restore MCS catalogs. You can use ACT to back up your MCS catalogs and import them into another site.
