Citrix Virtual Apps and Desktops

Virtual Channel Plugin Manager

Understanding the Feature

Citrix understands the customers’ environments can be complex and deploying a plugin across managed and unmanaged endpoints requires significant effort. This feature is designed to simplify the process.

This feature includes two components:. One on the VDA side (detector process) and another on the Citrix Workspace App side (installer process). When administrators meet the prerequisites mentioned above, such as enabling policies, making registry entries and specifying an application to monitor:

  • The VDA side detector process monitors for the application launch by the end user once they logon to the Virtual desktop
  • The detector process informs the Citrix Workspace App side to prompt the user to install the plugin necessary to optimize the specified application
  • Users receive a pop-up on their screen with brief details about the plugin. Users can choose to install the plugin, skip or choose to never install it
    • If users skip the installation process, they will not see the pop-up again in that session. The installation prompt will appear upon session reconnect.
    • If users choose to never install the plugin, the choice will be logged in their user profile for administrator visibility.
  • If users choose to install the plugin, the Citrix Workspace App side will download and install the plugin on the endpoint.
    • On successful installation, the user will be shown a message to reconnect the session for the plugin to take effect. The user can choose to do it immediately or close the success message and do a reconnect later.
    • If the installation fails, the user will see an error message and the failure will be logged for administrator visibility.
